Firstly well done on your fisrt few days! I was kind of sceptical that it would not be a success. I have never been that political really. But now I feel I have to say something and thanks to your open forum I am able to do so. I own a small transport company based in the west midlands. We employ 49 people. All of whom are dedicated and make my company a success. Like many in my position I have looked at the future outcome of the wider economy and the macro one that my company exists in. I find it hard to believe that you as law makers do not recognise the pressure the laws put a small businesss under! We vare the back bone of this country. We pay our taxes and our VAT and our Corporation tax and our employee NI and our employees NI. This of course is essential in a democracy. And . I accept thta is neccassary as well as council tax and other txes on what we buy. But wHAT i FIND DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND is why the legislation is so against an employer? It really is as if you "the law makers" want us to fail!! We cannot make a move without health and safety on our backs! I care for my work colleagues: we work for the same company which is a seperate identity. Why do we have draconian laws to punish us for the slightest thing. I understand that Europe is about the French socialist "job creation scheme". But do we really have to subscribe? I look at the public sector! Oh my god! You want to make savings? Then remove the draqconian employment laws and their tribunals! You would achieve 50% costb cutting if people were not so affraid of the consequences of firing someone because they cant do their job! Look at the law as it stands: we can do nothing. Even in my industry to dismiss a driver because he turned up to work DRUNK breaches his rights!! Sir. Review these employment and descrimination laws! Review these silly HSE laws. Let the businesses that make this country some wealth function! And no Sir. I do not advocate 12 year old children climbing chimnys but please let common sense prevail.
coulnt agree more.as a small businees owner I believe in rewarding staff who add to the companies lot.If someone is adding wealth to the company the last thing I would want to do is lose them and therefore their efforts should be recognised and rewarded accordingly.However tht reverse should be true that if someone is useless,not suitable ,a pain in the neck ,or generaly just a drain on resources I should be able to get rid of them .the employment laws are stacked against the small business owners who often earns less than the employee in the bad times yet has to suffer all the stress of business and employment issues whilst his employee goes on the sick etc.lets have a reasonable and equitable approach at least
