Re: June 8th 2017....... General Election or Brexit referendum part II

Peter C

McGuiness and Adams won their seats in the UK parliament after the provisionals had given up the armed struggle, even though they never used that privelidge.

Corbyn however held talks with terrorists during the killing days, he is a man who professes empathy with the ordinary British people, bit in reality his empathy has always been with the rebel causes and has always demonstrated a simmering antipathy with the UK in general his true political leaning is communism, an ideology that seeks to destroy democracy and impose huge government control over the lives of the individual.

John, With the greatest respect I cannot agree with you on any level. I am a labour supporter and left wing to boot so you and I have absolutely nothing in common. I. Can't agree with you about the Labour government being responsible for the banking crisis - it was due to gambling banksters and de-regulation introduced by Thatcher and her love of Milton Friedman. Jeremy corbyn at least spoke with the IRA which is more than can be said for many MP's during the troubles. Jaw jaw not war war is my maxim, that is also the belief of Jeremy Corbyn. I did not agree with the violence - my cousin was shot by a sniper. I do remember, however,  that the Catholic population and non-landowners did not have a vote , and no power at all so it is understandable they were more than slightly miffed at the time. It is also a fact that China has a bigger tech industry than the Americans, their economy is booming they produce more cars than the US etc etc. They have improved the lot so so many of the enormous population and they are communist - industry is state-owned. I spent 5 weeks in China in 2012 and the people are obsessed with progress, can travel abroad if they chose to and is moving quickly. There is poverty but so is there poverty here - no-one lives on the street in China.
I am not a communist but a socialist and you seem very keen to make me down as a Marxist - I did study Marx at university and regard him as a philosopher and not a politician and would be happy to see this country get a good dose of socialism to recover some dignity and equality.  We will never agree - your a hard right Tory and I am a left leaning socialist so we have to leave it at that!

Mary,
I accept that you believe that lot of rubbish that you have rolled out in your response‚Äč to my post but it proves one thing to me, that you are suffering from the intellectually fatal head up arse syndrome.
The task of supervising the banking system was removed from the Bank of England in 1997 and transferred to the new Financial Services Authority (FSA) because New Labour thought the Bank had made a hash of it.

I do hope you get better soon.

Re: June 8th 2017....... General Election or Brexit referendum part II

Dear Peter,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind post. You are correct I am more than capable of dealing with a person like John Kelly. I wasn't going to dignify his remarks with a response, there is no point, but I appreciate your remarks. I believe that this site has many reasonable, well informed posters who debate without resorting to insults. David, for example, comes from a different side of the political spectrum but never fails to be courteous and respectful, as do most of us.
Thank you once again - I hope that we can all keep posting whatever our beliefs!

Yes I do sometimes over react, but when someone cites Communist China as a shining light of a caring society then hypocrisy springs to mind.
Also when someone challenges historic fact in an attempt to slur one political party for an action that caused terrible hardship for many in this country some of whom were inevitably Labour voters when in fact it was New Labour that took those decisions. I tend to lose it a bit.
Mary's gender has nothing to do with my response, only the absurdity of her comments.

I am not particular to one side of the political spectrum or the other - both have relevance to the path! Rather I tend to bow to the wisdom of Lao Tsu - the truth is like the great river which reaches the sea. Being able to see problems from many sides, I find, is the nearest we get to harmony! I am reminded of my near-death experience recently swimming in icy water near icebergs! I saw the currents, respected them, and accommodated them as best I was able, which is probably why I find myself writing this. John has good points, Mary has good points, Peter has good points, Liam has good points, Dave has good points, Rookery has good points, Oracle has good points. I suggest we leave it at that!

Hi David,
I am so sorry to hear about your recent experience, it sounds very scary - it is good to hear that you are well and still with us. You are right about this site - of course most of the poster have good and bad ideas and we can never all agree but courtesy and respect should prevail. You and I have disagreed on occasion I am sure but you have always remained polite and I have great respect for you and always read your posts with interest.  I hope you are well and are fully recovered!

It happened a little while back, and I was forgetting you probably weren't contributing to the site at that stage. Yes, I recovered well, thank you, but it teaches you great respect for the elements!
