Re: JSA claimants tricked out of payments by Job Centers

well what do you know, I've just been to the job centre to sign on and have been caught out exactly like the video shows
2 weeks ago I went to see my personal advisor ( bit of a joke really ) and she showed me 2 jobs I could apply for to which I happily agreed, I did mention to her at the time I was waiting on a decision from an application and that I was already in the process of looking into other roles.  Anyway I didn't apply for them straight away as the closing date for the job in question was the 16th July and I applied on the 28th June, well within the timescales. So today I see a totally different advisor to the one I normally see and he asked me why I didn't apply sooner, so I explained why and then he states the closing dates can change and that by the time I applied  it was closed, and that it actually closed the day after I saw the personal advisor and now it has to go to a decision maker and I could lose any benefits for up to 6 months.
That video is absolutely spot on and will be using that in my appeal

yes Peter, and after the best part of 40 years in work and 5 months the dole I still haven't got a clue about the dole process, so I guess I was an easy target

Re: JSA claimants tricked out of payments by Job Centers

Peter, the advisor that I spoke to was so excited about the fact I'd not applied for the role on the same day i was given it he even forgot to ask his standard basic questions " have I worked or earned any money since last time I signed on "  it's unbelievable really, the closing date for application changed to the day after I was given it, and I must also say that all the jobs I have applied for through the job centre have not even responded.

Example; last year on the directgov website there was a job I applied for through them, never got a reply, and a few weeks later the same company advertised in a local paper to which I applied, had an immediate response, an interview and got the job, but unfortunately things didn't work out and that's why I am back on the dole again. Makes you wonder if these jobs they suggest you apply for are not just traps

The way round this is to say you made an application by letter. That way either (a) the post man lost your letter or (b) it would have arrived outside the 'closing date' and been binned. Reasoning being that unless you send it by going to a post office and requesting a proof of postage there is no evidence. That gets around the arbitrary change of closing date scam by the job centre.
Another point to make if they try to stop your JSA is that unless you have access to online applications any job application would take more than 24 hours to get there due to the way the Royal Mail will only guarantee 1st class delivery within 15 working days (this is the time period before an item is deemed lost in the system...). Hope that helps and no I am not one of the unemployed but I don't like any scam by a government department that penalises someone who genuinely is trying to find work.
Good luck with your job search by the way.
